Our Story

Pittsburgh’s opportunity gap has grown into a full-service business and workforce consultancy. From our first neighborhood workshop to today’s multi-year public–private partnerships, DCS has stayed true to one promise: results that lift people and profits, together.

2016

DCS marked its 5-year anniversary with a community brunch that brought together job seekers, entrepreneurs, partner organizations, and community leaders. The event included the announcement of Dr. Davis’s full-time commitment to DCS and featured guest speaker Mike Capsambelis of Google Pittsburgh. More than 100 attendees from business, nonprofit, government, and higher education sectors participated, reinforcing DCS’ growing role as a connector across the regional ecosystem.

2017

DCS launched its inaugural Pittsburgh Collective Community Impact Forum at Point Park University, convening strategic partners to explore economic development and business capacity building. The event featured keynote speaker Melinda F. Emerson (Small Biz Lady) and provided industry insights to support informed, collaborative growth.

2018

Launched in 2018, DCS’ Community2Work® (C2W) program has since connected nearly 3,000 job seekers, including adults and youth, to career pathways and employer partners. As noted by Danielle Davis, Ph.D., the program reflects DCS’s sustained commitment to workforce access and inclusive economic opportunity.

2020

In partnership with Hazelwood Initiative and P.O.O.R.L.A.W., DCS received a Richard King Mellon Foundation grant to implement the CONNECTED program. The initiative supported more than 25 small businesses and entrepreneurs, advanced 10 startups, and delivered technical assistance through workshops, referrals, and events. Through DCS’ Community2Work® (C2W) workforce program, 286 individuals received job training and support, resulting in 151 interviews and 58 hires.

2020

DCS launched Small Biz Wednesdays, an ongoing event series providing small business owners with access to expert guidance and practical resources. The initiative reinforces DCS’ commitment to strengthening and supporting small businesses.
